COVID UPDATE – VACCINATION – GOOD NEWS UPDATE – JANUARY 6, 2021

MENNO HOME  – COVID VACCINATION

GOOD NEWS! VACCINATIONS WILL BE COMING TO MENNO HOME!
We have learned today that the COVID-19 vaccine will NOT be withheld for residents living in settings that are under outbreak control precautions!
This means ALL of Menno Home!
Residents who should be vaccinated are those who:
  • are asymptomatic at time of vaccination and have tested negative for COVID-19, or
  • have recovered from COVID-19 and are deemed non-infectious
There were many of you who were frustrated and asking about how to advocate for this. We are so excited to tell you that this is the Fraser Health Medical Health Officer’s recommendations for providing COVID-19 vaccine in Long-Term Care/Assisted Living/Independent Living outbreak settings!
Thank you for your prayers, your support, your advocacy!

INDEPENDENT LIVING – COVID VACCINATION

We have learned today that the COVID-19 vaccine WILL be given to the residents in our Independent Living Apartments!

We are asking you to BE READY by doing the following. Once this is done, please let us know that you are ready so that we can immediately book you when the Vaccination Clinic comes to your apartment building.

What you need to do before your appointment:

You will be phoned to notify you of the date, location and time of your appointment. This is all to be determined.

Your appointment should take about 15 – 20 minutes. Please do not go to your appointment if you are feeling unwell, experiencing COVID-19- like symptoms, or if you have been asked to self-isolate.

DECEMBER 31 – APARTMENTS – New residents on isolation = 18 (T=18) Covid Positive = 0 (T=0)

APARTMENTS ISOLATION/COVID UPDATE – December 31 – 2020

We are sorry to report that a Fraser Health Home Support care aide tested positive for COVID. This care aide took care of 18 residents in the apartments who were exposed on December 19th and December 22nd. All residents have been notified.

The Apartments (Pavilion, Terrace West, Terrace East, Primrose Gardens)

NEW RESIDENTS ON ISOLATION = 18
TOTAL NUMBER OF RESIDENTS ON ISOLATION: T = 18
NEW APARTMENT RESIDENTS COVID-POSITIVE = 0
NUMBER OF APARTMENT RESIDENTS COVID POSITIVE = 0
BY BUILDING:
TERRACE EAST (Assisted Living) = 1 resident on isolation
PAVILION (Independent Living) = 3 residents on isolation
TERRACE WEST (Independent Living) = 9 residents on isolation
PRIMROSE GARDENS (Independent Living) = 5 residents on isolation
Residents on isolation have an isolation cart outside their apartment door. It contains Personal Protective Equipment (sanitized) and directions on usage. Residents may be on 14-day isolation for one of these reasons:
  1. COVID-positive exposure
  2. Return from acute care hospital
  3. They are COVID positive
Residents are on isolation because they pose a risk to others to transmit COVID-19 if they are not isolated for 14 days. The presence of an isolation cart does not indicate that the resident is COVID-positive.

If your loved one has an isolation cart at their apartment suite, you must wear FULL Personal Protective Equipment to enter the suite and be with them.

This includes:

Goggles, Surgical mask, Gown

Instructions for use are located at the isolation cart. Don the gear (put it on) before you enter the suite. Doff (take it off) and dispose at exit.

Re:                   Possibility of COVID-19 Vaccinations for Residents

Download MEMO as PDF

________________________________________________________________________

There is a possibility that residents who live in the apartments will be given the opportunity for COVID vaccination in the next several weeks.

Although Menno Place has not received any commitment from Fraser Health to vaccinate Independent Living or Assisted Living residents, we are communicating with you so that you can be prepared.

COVID-19 vaccines are new and there may be questions that you have about how the vaccine was developed and how it is being administered to people. You may wonder about how your own medical condition(s) may interact with the vaccine.

Attached to this memo is a Consent Form for you to prepare. At this time, we expect that residents will be vaccinated with the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine.

You can read the Frequently Asked Questions about BioNTech Pfizer vaccine on the Family, Friends & Residents website: www.MennoPlaceLife.com/vaccination-apartments

This webpage talks about the special instances where a physician will provide advice about receiving the vaccine, such as; allergies; being allergic to polyethylene glycol, history of anaphylaxis requiring administration of adrenaline, immunocompromised, recently vaccinated, seriously ill or have had COVID-19.

There is also a slideshow of information from Rexall about how vaccines are approved in Canada and how these vaccines were approved.

We’ve also included a double-sided page of information from the BC Center for Disease Control about the COVID-9 mRNA vaccines.

You will receive another memo or announcement when we are given information that Fraser Health is bringing COVID-19 vaccine to the Apartments.

VACCINATION UPDATE – HOME, HOSPITAL AND ALL STAFF | PAVILION WAITS FOR SWAB RESULTS

Menno Home and Hospital residents will be receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Medical Decision Makers have been given a link to provide consent for their loved one. We will be calling all primary contacts to ensure that they are comfortable with their decision.

All staff who wish to be vaccinated will be able to drop-in on Tuesday, Dec. 29th – details will be communicated when we know them. It will likely be in the Hospital Chapel after resident’s vaccinations.

This includes inside a resident’s apartment suite (Independent Living), during a safe visit (Assisted Living, Long Term Care), going on a walk or taking a resident on an essential outing. If you are enjoying a meal with your loved one, ensure that you are 6 feet apart and that you are wearing a mask at all times when you are not eating or drinking.
