Wearing Masks – The Apartments

In a time when the community prevalence of COVID-19 is significant, we are requiring that visitors wear a medical grade mask at all times when on the Menno Place campus or while visiting as a Registered or Designated visitor. This includes inside a resident’s apartment suite (Independent Living), during a safe visit (Assisted Living, Long Term Care), going on a walk or taking a resident on an essential outing. If you are enjoying a meal with your loved one, ensure that you are 6 feet apart and that you are wearing a mask at all times when you are not eating or drinking.

Dining Rooms – Pavilion and Primrose Gardens

The dining rooms in Pavilion and Primrose Gardens are closed during this time while there is COVID-19 related isolation taking place. Terrace West has no COVID-19 related isolation, although there are isolation carts. There is no change to Terrace West or Terrace East dining.

Isolation Carts – The Apartments

If your loved one has an isolation cart at their apartment suite, you must wear FULL Personal Protective Equipment to enter the suite and be with them.

This includes:

Goggles, Surgical mask, Gown

Instructions for use are located at the isolation cart. Don the gear (put it on) before you enter the suite. Doff (take it off) and dispose at exit.

DECEMBER 18 – APARTMENTS – New residents on isolation = 1 (T=16) New Covid Positive = 0 (T=2)

APARTMENTS ISOLATION/COVID UPDATE – December 18 – 2020

The Apartments (Pavilion, Terrace West, Terrace East, Primrose Gardens)

NEW RESIDENTS ON ISOLATION = 1 (Pavilion)
TOTAL NUMBER OF RESIDENTS ON ISOLATION: T = 16
NEW APARTMENT RESIDENTS COVID-POSITIVE = 0
NUMBER OF APARTMENT RESIDENTS COVID POSITIVE = 2 (Pavilion)
BY BUILDING:
TERRACE EAST (Assisted Living) = 0 (0 COVID positive)
PAVILION (Independent Living) = 3 ( 2 COVID positive)
TERRACE WEST (Independent Living) = 2 (neither are COVID-related isolations)
PRIMROSE GARDENS (Independent Living) = 11 (0 COVID positive)
*NOTE: THERE ARE SPECIFIC BUILDING UPDATES FOR ANY BUILDING WITH COVID-POSITIVE RESIDENTS
Residents on isolation have an isolation cart outside their apartment door. It contains Personal Protective Equipment (sanitized) and directions on usage. Residents may be on 14-day isolation for one of these reasons:
  1. COVID-positive exposure
  2. Return from acute care hospital
  3. They are COVID positive
Residents are on isolation because they pose a risk to others to transmit COVID-19 if they are not isolated for 14 days. The presence of an isolation cart does not indicate that the resident is COVID-positive.

DECEMBER 18 – PAVILION – Total new positives = 0 (T=2)

COVID POSITIVE UPDATE – December 18– 2020 – Pavilion Independent Living
NEW COVID POSITIVE CASES = 0
NUMBER OF RESIDENTS ON ISOLATION = 4
TOTAL COVID POSITIVE CASES = 2 (2 residents / 0 staff)
PASSED AWAY = 0 (0 resident / 0 staff)
ACTION:
  • 1 COVID-19 positive resident has returned from ARH. Supported by family, in isolation. Full PPE and education provided to the family support. PPE provided at no charge.
  • During this Christmas season, we are asking families in the Independent Living Apartments to celebrate by having the Registered Visitors come to the resident suite. If you go to a family home over Christmas, you will be required to self-isolate in your apartment for 14 days upon your return to your apartment. This is a very HIGH RISK time, especially for seniors. You will be billed for the isolation process and required Personal Protective Equipment if you go to a family home for Christmas celebrations.
  • 14-day isolation occurs when there is a COVID-Positive exposure or a resident returns from an acute care hospital.
  • This is the time to be vigilant, to ensure that all residents are safe by exercising caution, staying at home and encouraging residents to stay at home.

Blessing the Menno Place Staff!

Blessing the Menno Place Staff!

We give thanks for all the people who show their love and kindness at this time – below are some photos of the people who are reaching out – Thank you!
If you want to bring some treats, we would happily accept any gifts for our staff!
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts that will ensure we can accept the gifts:
  1. All food must be commercially prepared and individually packaged – cookies individually packaged, muffins.
  2. We will accept cut flowers for the staff to take a bundle when they leave their shift
  3. We love plants/bouquets in individual pots
  4. Do you have a special mug? Corporate mugs? We’d love them!
  5. Drinks! Gatorade, water, special individualized drinks – the staff are VERY hot under their PPE.
  6. Fastners to keep the mask elastics from pulling on ears
  7. Individually wrapped chocolates!!!!!!!
  8. Catered lunches – we didn’t accept this previously, but now do! Boston pizza provides individual mini-pizzas – ask for elementary school pricing.
  9. Individually wrapped sandwiches (commercially prepared)
  10. Personal size hand sanitizers
  11. Hand lotion
  12. Vitamins – yes! Bring on the energy!
  13. Cards – the residents are receiving cards – the staff would love to receive them, too.
  14. Gift cards ($5) for a Starbucks, Tim’s or McDonald’s coffee – perfect for after a shift or on the way to night shift
  15. Any other encouragement – personal sized, individually wrapped.
If you want to donate directly to the E2 COVID positive staff, please indicate that is your wish. Garry W. Janzen will let you know quantities.
ALL of the Menno Place staff have been working so hard to keep our seniors safe – please consider donating to a specific unit or building OR to anywhere on the campus.
Blessings to you!
Please contact Garry.Janzen@MennoPlace.ca, 604.851.1332 if you would like to make a donation.
All donors will be acknowledged in the Abbotsford News when the outbreak is over! We look forward to that day!
