Primrose Gardens is on Monitoring, a new status from Public Health. Our Manager, Community Enrichment, Trish Giesbrecht is on daily calls with Public Health and has set up following the protocols for infection control. The prevalence of COVID is so high in our community that Public Health is focusing their oversight efforts on locations that do not have the experience that our team brings. We are sorry to report that some cases of COVID are impacting residents more severely and another resident has gone to hospital. We are also initiating isolation precautions with 1 new symptomatic resident.

We want to thank our team of staff in Primrose Gardens who are doing the wellness checks. These phone calls and eyes-on checks have helped residents seek additional medical support in a timely way when needed.

W2 Hospital has been called off Outbreak! This is great news!

We are no longer on Outbreak or Enhanced Monitoring – we can resume activities and visits as before.

  • Outings may resume – please exercise caution with the high rate of COVID prevalent in our community
  • Dining and group activities may continue as before

Update: Outings during Outbreak (E1 Hospital & W2 Hospital)

“Outbreak” is an official status for an area / unit on the campus set by the Public Health Officer. Each day, the COVID Outbreak Lead at Menno Place connects with Public Health to discuss (among other things) the specifics of COVID positives, transmission, symptomatic residents and staff. The Public Health Officer then interacts with the Medical Health Officer to discuss any new parameters. When the MHO puts a unit/area on Outbreak, the MHO then provides the infection control protocols for us to follow to contain the spread of COVID.

At this time, E1 Hospital and W2 Hospital are on Outbreak

These are the protocols for outings when an area/unit is on outbreak:

Social Outings: When an area is on outbreak, there are no social outings for any residents living in that area.

Essential Outings: If a resident has an essential outing, such as a medical appointment, family must call the service provider (eg: dentist) to inform them of the outbreak and ask if the service provider will accept the resident for the appointment. If so, please call nursing on the unit to arrange. If not, please re-book that outing appropriately and inform nursing on the unit.

HOSPITAL COVID UPDATE – JANUARY 17, 2022 – E1, E2, W2

The situation on each unit in Menno Hospital is rapidly changing. Please take note of how it is changing for your loved one in the location that they live in Menno Hospital. Not all of the COVID positives are transmitted in the workplace. This is due to the high prevalence of COVID in our community. Please pray for the staff who are working in these conditions, particularly the ones who are working with droplet precautions as they are in Hospital E1. They are also covering work for their co-workers who are off sick with COVID. This is difficult. We are getting help with staff needs from Fraser Health. Symptoms reported are said to be mild for both staff and residents. This is still an unknown for our residents as we do not fully understand the impact of COVID on a frail, elderly individual with pre-existing health issues.

Thank you for your patience – the leadership team is working very hard to address concerns with staffing and COVID management / infection protocols as the highest priority for residents living in Menno Hospital. This status may change again if all residents with pending swabs come back negative.

Moving foward, you will receive one report for all units in Menno Hospital. With omicron at record-high prevalence in our community, we are facing daily changes in protocols and supplies (rapid tests). We thank each of you for your patience with our team as we organize and re-orient to the ever-changing information and protocols for residents and visitors.

HOSPITAL E1 – COVID Positive = 7 staff, 4 residents

NEW COVID POSITIVE CASES = 2 staff + 1 resident

TOTAL COVID POSITIVE CASES = 14 (5 residents | 9 staff)

MOST RECENT COVID CASE = January 13, 2022

 

We are sorry to report that we now have 5 residents who tested positive for COVID.

  • E1 Hospital is now on Blanket Precaution (a new term describing specific protocols)
  • All visits will be stopped except VERY ESSENTIAL visits
  • All communal activity including dining stopped
  • All residents placed on droplet precautions – isolation and full PPE for staff and essential visits
  • All families of affected residents will be contacted (primary contact).

  • Nursing will communicate with affected resident’s primary contact
  • Enhanced Monitoring until January 14th if no further spread of COVID
  • No group activities until January 14th
  • Stagger meal times and ensure physical distancing during meal times

  • Essential Visitors only at this time.
