Christmas at Menno Place: 2025 Events & Activities

It’s December! The season of Advent has begun and you’ll find Christmas all over the campus at Menno Place.

From trees and decorations brightening the halls to special chapel services, live music, holiday parties, Christmas movies, even a chance for the residents to get a photo with Santa here on campus, there’s something for the child in all of us.

  • In Menno Hospital East 2 they’ll be doing Christmas baking.
  • There’s a Christmas Tea happening in Terrace East
  • Menno Home East 1 is making wreaths (with chocolate)
  • The Pavilion is hosting a children’s Christmas piano recital
  • Menno Hospital West 2 is going on a bus trip to see the Christmas lights
  • Home East 2 is having a Christmas party
  • Primrose Gardens is hosting a choir

And that’s just the beginning. As you’re putting together your Christmas plans you can find the holiday happenings for each area of campus in the monthly recreation calendars. The December calendars are up – you can find them through the link at the top of this website:

Residents can sign up for bus trips and other activities with the recreation staff in their area. In the apartments the Life Enrichment Associates are also available to help. If you have any questions about Christmas activities please don’t hesitate to reach out.

The chaplains have put together a full month of special chapel services each Tuesday in the month of December. Some weeks feature live music along with the chapel service. Families and friends are always welcome to join us for any of these services.

If you or your loved one is looking for a gentler space in the midst of the holiday season our annual Blue Christmas Service on December 16 offers a quiet, reflective space particularly well suited to those who may be lonely or grieving at this delicate time of year.

You can see the full chapel calendar below and find more Christmas resources and Advent readings here: https://www.mennoplace.ca/christmas/

MEMO: Planned Power Outage – Menno Hospital

Date:   October 23, 2025
To:       Menno Hospital Residents & Families
Re:       Planned BC Hydro Power Outage
________________________________________________________________________

BC Hydro has scheduled some system upgrades in our area of Abbotsford. They have informed us that there will be a power outage impacting the Menno Hospital building:

Date:          Sunday, October 26, 2025

Time:          9:30am – 4:00pm

*Please note the times are approximate

During any power outage, our on-campus backup system will supply electricity to all essential services. Resident care will not be interrupted.

Staff are reminded to ensure that all oxygen concentrators are plugged into the backup power supply. Backup power will also maintain essential lighting. Phones and the nurse call bell system will remain operational.

Please note that the menu for the day has been adjusted. Heating may be affected, so staff are asked to ensure residents are dressed in layers and that warm blankets are available for their comfort.

Menno Home is on a separate power supply and will not be affected by this event.

If you have any questions, please reach out to staff on your unit.
