About Safe Social Visits

Who can visit? ONE designated visitor per resident for ALL visits.
There will be ONE designated visitor per resident for all safe visits until the Public Health Officer changes the visiting protocol orders. To book a Safe Visit, you must be the designated visitor for your loved one.

Who is the designated visitor for my loved one?

  • Resident’s Choice: If the resident is able to choose a designated visitor, their choice will be honoured. The Emergency Contact for the resident will be asked to confirm their choice to us.
  • OR Substitute Decision Maker / POA / Emergency Contact #1: The designated visitor will be verified through the resident’s medical record to ensure that you are either the Substitute Decision Maker or Power of Attorney. Priority will go to the Substitute Decision Maker if one is listed in the resident’s medical record.
  • OR Alternate Visitor Chosen by Substitute Decision Maker or POA: If you are the verified designated visitor AND you are not able to visit due to personal circumstances (schedule or geography), you will be given the opportunity to designate another individual. This choice cannot be changed until we receive new visiting protocols from the Public Health Officer.

How do I book a visit?
The designated visitor (see above) will receive an email to book a visit. They will inform Menno Place if an alternate visitor is selected as designated visitor.

How many visitors? One.
One. Once a designated visitor is in place, they will remain in place as the ONE designated visitor while we are under the current orders from the Public Health Officer.

What times are available to visit?
Moving forward, Safe Visits in the Home & Hospital will be available 7 days a week between 11:15am and 7:00pm (except STAT holidays). Safe Visits in Terrace East Assisted Living will be available Sunday through Friday between 11:15am and 6:15pm. Available time slots for your loved one’s unit will be visible in the booking calendar.

How many times can I visit my loved one?
You may book two visits per month. If there are cancellations or more visits available you may receive a phone call to book a last-minute visit. You can put your name on the last-minute call list via the survey email you receive after every visit.

Visit Locations:
We have 4 visitor centres that will be the locations for all visits. You will receive parking and arrival instructions via email after you have made your Safe Visit booking.

Infection Prevention Protocols:
You will be required to comply with all infection prevention protocols. At the outset of your appointment, you will be asked several screening questions about COVID-19 symptoms and travel. If you answer “Yes” to any of these screening questions, your appointment will be cancelled to ensure the ongoing safety of our residents and staff.

You will be required to sanitize your hands and wear a mask. Please bring your own mask with you. Masks are required to be worn by all on the Menno Place campus.

Your Visit:
Your Visitation Host will bring you to the safe visit location to see your loved one and will remain with you during your visit. The Visitor Centre has been thoroughly cleaned to keep both yourself and your loved one safe. This is a no-touch visit. Physical distance of 6 feet will be required at all times, and you will not be able to hug, kiss, or touch your loved one. Please do not bring any items with you as you will not be able to give these to your loved one. There is no eating or drinking during the visit.

If you would like a smile mask that allows your loved one to see your entire face, you can purchase one at the time of your visit for $5 from the Visitation Host (limited inventory). This will be billed to your loved one’s trust account.
