Menno Place is Music Care Certified!
We are delighted to announce that Menno Place is the first long-term care home in Canada to be Music Care Certified!
Music has always been part of the foundation of care at Menno Place, particularly for those who live with dementia. On September 24th Menno Place will be awarded with Music Care Certification for achieving outstanding music care delivery.
Whether it’s the opening bars of a Mozart concerto or an old radio hit, music satisfies a deeply human need and our longing for it does not diminish with age. The Music Care program offers personalized care using tools and resources that tap into the shared language of music. Our recreation staff have been trained in the Music Care program and now Menno Place has taken the additional steps to become certified.
We congratulate Linda Weatherly, Manager of Recreation, Volunteers and Rehabilitation, for leading the certification program. Supported by Emma Phillips, Recreation Aide, Linda and her team have demonstrated Menno Place’s commitment to continually improving the quality of care that we deliver. Menno Place is the first long-term care home in Canada to receive this distinction and joins organizations and schools across the country who see the value and importance of personalized, music-based experiences.
As language fades, music can speak to us and even for us. It can call up a long forgotten memory, strengthen a family bond and transport us back in time. Music is a powerful connector and it can be a lifeline for residents in long-term care who often struggle with loneliness. With the completion of this certification program our staff have the framework, tools, and training to sustain a music-rich environment on our campus and continue to integrate music into the daily routines and activities of the residents.
